Microsoft documents the /collect requests and the cookies. Its setup page shows the tag code only as an image, so the script URL is listed as commonly installed.

What Microsoft Clarity is

Microsoft Clarity records sessions and builds heatmaps. It is installed with a tracking script in the page head, through a platform integration, or through Google Tag Manager.

It keeps a site-specific user ID in the _clck cookie and stitches page views into one session with _clsk.

What marketers use it for

Marketers and UX teams use it to watch session recordings, see heatmaps and spot friction such as rage clicks. It can be linked with Google Analytics.

How to recognize Microsoft Clarity on a site

  1. Open the site in Chrome, open DevTools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac) and go to the Network tab.
  2. Reload the page and type clarity.ms/collect into the filter box. Microsoft's setup guide says to look for POST requests to clarity.ms/collect while you interact with the page.
  3. In the Console tab, type typeof clarity and press Enter. If it returns "function", the Clarity script is on the page.
  4. In Application, then Cookies, look for _clck, _clsk, CLID, clid. Some cookies only appear after a consent choice or a specific action.
