What TikTok Pixel is
TikTok describes the Pixel as code placed on a website that shares website events with TikTok. It runs in the visitor's browser and can be used alongside TikTok's server-side Events API.
It identifies the browser with the _ttp cookie, which TikTok documents as lasting 13 months from its last use.
What marketers use it for
Advertisers use it to measure conversions from TikTok ads and to optimize campaigns toward events such as purchases. Depending on its settings, it also helps build retargeting audiences.
How to recognize TikTok Pixel on a site
- Open the site in Chrome, open DevTools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac) and go to the Network tab.
- Reload the page and type
analytics.tiktok.cominto the filter box. The Pixel script and its event requests both come from analytics.tiktok.com. - In the Console tab, type
typeof ttqand press Enter. If it returns "object", the Pixel base code is on the page. - In Application, then Cookies, look for
_ttp. Some cookies only appear after a consent choice or a specific action.
